What do you think is the biggest struggle when it comes to managing money?

Probably the temptation to purchase things you can't afford, even though it's so easy to.

I agree with clara, I think we spend more money then we make or spend the money before we even make it. Its not enough to just come up with a way to manage our money, we have to have the self control to actually follow that plan. Because if you stray off the plan by just a little bit it messes everything else up and you end up in a train wreck. Most people can create a way to manage money but there are few who have the self control to actually follow through with it.

To try to live a life that they cant afford. People always try to have the newest and biggest and nicest thing but it will hurt you in the long run

People go into debt over stuff that they think they need when it is not a necessity at all. The hardest thing to do is convince yourself you do not need the newest and biggest thing.

Having to pay for more then you can afford. At least that's how it is for my family.

I agree with John. Waiting until you can afford what you want requires a lot of patience, and in America today that's something we generally don't have because there isn't much that we have to wait a long time for.

A lot of people also use cards, debit or credit, when paying for items. It is very easy to just swipe and not think of the amount you are paying. For me I seem to spend less if I use cash because it is a physical thing that you are handing over instead of imaginary numbers.

I agree with john, that it can also be hard to save up the money and be patient to buy something when you badly want or feel the need to own something or to invest in something that seems awesome at that moment but turns out to be a scam.

I agree with Dora. It's so easy to forget that you don't actually own all that money, especially with credit, and the debt adds up fast. Soon you're in big trouble. If you can actually see what you're handing over, and how much, it becomes a lot more real and a lot more painful

Having the ability to discern between needs and desires. I also agree with John and Alex, that Patience and Self-control are extremely important. I think these are things everyone will struggle with throughout our lives. We're all human. We make mistakes. A big difference is how we react after we make them.

^Definitely. You can make a mistake and get over your head in credit, but the big difference between between failure and success is how you react. Are you proactive and make a plan to get out or give up hope and get deeper in your issue?

Using a cash (envelope) system does really cut down on excess spending. Especially with larger ($20 and $100) bills, spending those causes an almost physical reaction.

I think the biggest struggle is saving your money. Because there will always be things you want. If you keep buying stuff and don't save much or at all them you go into debt.

Living a life you cannot afford is one. There is so much pressure to have what you simply do not have the money to buy.
