In what way is saving an exercise in character?

Once you learn how to do it, you keep practicing it and over time saving becomes a natural thing you do.

Saving can be tough. All the fancy, shiny things are very appealing. Also, you see everyone else with them, and feel out of the norm. But saving will help you immensely in the long run. You'll be able to buy all those nice shiny things, and you'll be able to leave money for your children, too. In other words, saving excersices self control, which is a trait many of us could use.

I agree with everyone lol it builds discipline and self control. It makes you stand out in a good way, lots of people say they can save but few actually do. You may miss out on a few things in the beginning but the longer you do it the better you become at it and the more money you will have built up. But it also shows determination, its a long and difficult process if it wasn't we would have more wealthy people and less in debt people in America.

I agree with everyone. Patience and self control are essential when it comes to saving money. I definitely agree with this. Saving shows that you have self control, but patience is also a big part of it.

Because you have to learn how to say no to yourself, and yes to saving.

I agree with everyone..... of course but not only is it an exercise of self control. You have to learn a lot about money that should be common sense but isn't because of the culture. You can't assume just because you know how to put money in the bank that there isn't more to learn about growing wealth.

It will require you giving up things that you may really want in the moment and it's very difficult to have the self control to say no to instant gratification for the sake of long term benefit.

The two main attributes of a saver are self-control and patience, which also happen to be Fruits of the Spirit. It goes to show that we need to use the fruits of character in all areas of our lives.
