It's kinda like a trial run. You get to learn what you're good at and what you aren't, you get some amount of experience, and if you don't like the job you're doing then you can eliminate that option from your list of potential careers.

Most importantly it teaches you to be hard working. Also you can acquire the very important skill of teamwork and commitment.

It helps prepare you for the real world. Most people today don't even know what work is, and they would never be able to work 40 hour weeks. so it helps slowly by slowly get you used to what a real job will actually be like.
